What thickness gym flooring do I need?

Thickness is the most important decision when buying gym flooring. Here's the definitive UK guide:

  • 17mm rubber tiles: Cardio equipment, functional training, yoga, light weights. The entry-level option for gyms without heavy barbell work. From £9.99/m².
  • 20mm rubber tiles: The sweet spot for most home gyms. Handles squat racks, free weights, deadlifts, and general training. From £12/m². Recommended for 80% of home gym builders.
  • 30mm impact tiles: CrossFit boxes and any gym where barbells are regularly dropped. From £16/m².
  • 40mm impact tiles: Olympic weightlifting platforms only — for overhead lifts where loaded barbells are dropped from height.

How many tiles do I need?

Our interlocking tiles are 500×500mm (0.25m² each). Measure your floor area in m² (length × width), multiply by 4 for number of tiles needed, then add 5–10% extra for edge cuts.
