Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are rubber gym mat tiles and how are they different from foam gym mats?
A: Rubber gym mat tiles are dense interlocking floor tiles made from high-grade recycled rubber at 900 kg/m³ density. Unlike foam gym mats, they don't compress permanently under weights, resist tearing from barbells and equipment, and are EN 13893 slip certified for commercial use. These 16mm tiles are the UK standard for fitness flooring in gyms, studios, garages, and home gym spaces.
Q: What size are these rubber gym mat tiles and how many per square metre?
A: Each tile measures 500mm × 500mm. You need exactly 4 tiles to cover 1 square metre of floor space. Measure your floor area in m² and multiply by 4 to calculate your order quantity. The interlocking design minimises wastage at joins.
Q: Are these rubber gym tiles certified — what do EN 13893, CE, and REACH mean?
A: EN 13893 is the European standard for slip resistance in sport and fitness flooring — essential for any gym used by paying customers or the public. CE marking confirms the product meets EU safety and manufacturing standards. REACH compliance means the tiles have been tested and cleared of restricted chemical substances, making them safe for all gym environments including barefoot training.
Q: Can rubber gym mat tiles be used outdoors — garden, driveway, or external training area?
A: These 16mm tiles are designed for indoor use on flat subfloors (concrete, wood, existing vinyl). For outdoor use, UV exposure and moisture can degrade standard rubber over time. If you need outdoor rubber flooring, contact us — we can advise on rubber matting products specifically designed for external environments.
Q: How do I install rubber gym mat tiles — do I need adhesive?
A: No adhesive is needed for most installations. The tiles interlock along all four edges using a puzzle connector system. Lay from the centre outwards on a clean, flat, dry surface. For permanent installations or large commercial floors, a rubber-compatible contact adhesive on perimeter tiles adds extra stability.
Q: How long will rubber gym mat tiles last under regular gym use?
A: High-density rubber gym tiles at 900 kg/m³ typically last 10–15+ years under regular gym use. The dense rubber compound resists compression, tearing, and surface wear significantly better than foam or low-density alternatives. EN 13893 certified tiles are built to commercial standards and are suitable for the highest levels of daily gym traffic.
