Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are these tiles certified safe for use in schools and by children?
A: Yes. CE marking and REACH compliance confirm these tiles are free from restricted chemical substances, making them safe for school environments. EN 13893 slip resistance certification is essential for school sports hall floors used by pupils of all ages during PE lessons, lunchtime activities, and after-school clubs.
Q: Will rubber gym tiles comply with school H&S requirements for sports flooring?
A: These tiles carry the key certifications for educational fitness facilities: EN 13893 (slip resistance), CE marking, and REACH compliance. School facility managers and H&S officers typically require slip resistance certification for any flooring used in active PE or sports areas. We can provide certification documentation on request.
Q: How do the tiles handle the varied activities in a school sports hall — badminton, circuits, gym?
A: The 500mm × 500mm interlocking tile format is flexible enough for multi-use school sports halls. The EN 13893 certified surface is safe for trainers and bare feet, and handles the varied loads of PE equipment, circuit training, and team sports. For areas where wheeled equipment is stored, the rubber resists marking and indent.
Q: Are the tiles easy to lift and clean underneath — important for school hygiene standards?
A: Free-lay interlocking tiles can be lifted individually for spot cleaning underneath. This makes them practical for school environments where occasional liquid spills, tracked mud, or equipment debris requires cleaning beneath the surface. The tiles relock perfectly after lifting.
Q: What noise reduction do the tiles provide — relevant for school buildings with adjacent classrooms?
A: The 16mm tiles deliver 65% noise reduction and 70% impact absorption. For school sports halls adjacent to classrooms or corridors, this reduces transmitted noise from jumping, running, and equipment use — supporting a better learning environment in surrounding spaces.
Q: How many tiles are needed for a standard school gym or PE area?
A: You need 4 tiles (500mm × 500mm) per square metre. A typical school fitness suite or PE equipment area of 50m² would require 200 tiles. For larger sports halls, measure the area you want to cover and multiply by 4. We can provide bulk pricing for school and local authority orders.
