Commercial Applications — Where 12mm Is Specified
- ✅ Cardio floors — treadmills, bikes, rowers, cross-trainers, assault bikes, ski ergs
- ✅ Group exercise studios — HIIT, circuits, functional fitness, aerobics
- ✅ Hotel gym facilities — commercial specification, professional finish
- ✅ Leisure centre cardio floors — high foot traffic zones
- ✅ School and university fitness suites — EN 13893 compliance for institutional use
- ✅ Corporate wellness spaces — low-impact training, appearance-critical environments
- ✅ Functional training zones — bodyweight movements, resistance bands, battle ropes
- ⚠️ Heavy free weights areas — upgrade to 16mm minimum for squat racks and regular dumbbell drops above 20kg
- ⚠️ Olympic lifting platforms — 30mm required for repeated barbell drops
- Blue/Black — Strong contrast border. Associates with performance and energy. Standard in CrossFit-influenced facilities and commercial gyms with dark colour schemes.
- White/Black — Clean, contemporary. Works with light-coloured facilities, modern studio aesthetics and facilities with white or grey branding.
- Acclimatise: Leave tiles in the facility for 24h at 15°C+ before laying. Critical in spaces with significant temperature variation. Rubber expands at operating temperature — installing cold creates gaps.
- Subfloor: Clean, dry and level (±3mm over 2m). Concrete, screed or timber. Sweep thoroughly — grit beneath tiles causes underside wear over time.
- Layout planning: For large commercial areas, snap chalk lines to ensure straight rows. Start from the centre of the room or from a fixed reference wall. Plan colour border alignment before laying begins.
- Connect tiles: Press puzzle edges firmly together. At 12kg per tile, the weight holds position. Work row by row. A two-person team can lay approximately 50m² per hour.
- Cut perimeter: Score firmly with a sharp Stanley knife and steel straight edge. At 12mm, cuts are clean and fast. Jigsaw for curved cuts around columns or obstacles.
- Safety ramp edges: Fit at all exposed perimeter edges. At 12mm transition height, ramped edges are required for commercial H&S compliance.
- Daily: Sweep or vacuum between sessions. Remove debris and grit that acts as an abrasive under equipment.
- After each session: Quick mop with pH-neutral commercial gym cleaner. Non-porous rubber surface cleans in one pass.
- Weekly deep clean: Damp mop with diluted commercial disinfectant. Allow to dry before use.
- Quarterly: Lift random tiles and clean beneath. Sweat and moisture accumulate under tiles over time in busy commercial environments.
- Do not use: Bleach, solvent-based cleaners, steam mops, abrasive pads.
- 16mm Standard Interlocking Tiles — weights areas, squat racks, dumbbells to 40kg
- 16mm Heavy Duty Bevelled Edge — flush joins, commercial weights floors
- 20mm Tiles — CrossFit, PT studios, heavy free weights

The 1m² Format — Commercial Installation Advantage
Most competitor tiles are 500mm × 500mm — requiring 4 tiles per m² and producing 4× more joins across the floor. At 1m² per tile, these reduce installation time and join count by 75%, directly cutting labour costs on large commercial installations.
| Comparison | 1m² Tiles (This Product) | 500mm Tiles (Competitors) |
|---|---|---|
| Tiles per 100m² | 100 tiles | 400 tiles |
| Number of joins (100m²) | ~180 | ~720 |
| Installation time (2-person team, 100m²) | ~3–4 hours | ~6–8 hours |
| Visual joins across floor | Minimal | Dense grid pattern |
Colour Border Options
Both colour options are identical in specification, material and price. Choose based on facility branding and interior design requirements:
The colour border is moulded through the interlocking edge — not painted or applied. Colour is permanent, does not fade under commercial daily use.
How Many Tiles for Your Facility?
Tile count = floor area in m² (add 10% for cuts). One tile = 1m².

| Commercial cardio floor (8m × 10m) | 80 m² | 88 tiles |

Frequently Asked Questions — 12mm Commercial Rubber Gym Tiles
Q: Are 12mm rubber tiles suitable for commercial cardio floors?
A: Yes — 12mm is the standard commercial specification for cardio zones, group exercise studios and functional training floors where heavy barbell drops are not required. EN 13893 slip certification and CE/REACH compliance satisfy commercial premises requirements.
Q: What's the advantage of 1m² tiles over 500mm tiles for commercial installation?
A: 75% fewer tiles to lay, 75% fewer joins across the floor, and significantly faster installation — a 2-person team can cover 100m² in 3–4 hours vs 6–8 hours with 500mm tiles. Lower joins also means fewer potential trip points and a cleaner professional finish.
Q: Do the colour borders meet commercial durability requirements?
A: Yes. The Blue or White border is moulded through the interlocking edge, not painted on. It does not fade, chip or peel under commercial daily use including high foot traffic, equipment movement and regular cleaning with commercial gym products.
Q: Can these tiles be used on an upper-floor commercial facility?
A: Yes. 12mm SBR rubber provides effective vibration and noise dampening from cardio equipment. For facilities above ground floor, we recommend anti-vibration feet under treadmills and heavy machines to further reduce impact transmitted to the structure below.
Q: What is the recommended thickness for a mixed commercial gym floor?
A: Zone by thickness — 12mm for cardio and studio areas, 16mm for general weights and dumbbell zones, 20mm for heavy free weights areas, 30mm for Olympic lifting platforms. This approach optimises protection where needed while controlling material cost across the total floor area.
Q: Do you offer trade pricing for commercial orders?
A: Yes. We supply commercial facilities at trade pricing. Send your floor plan and dimensions for a quote within 24 hours. Bulk palletised delivery is available for orders over 50m². Contact us via the website or call for immediate assistance.
Q: Can these tiles be installed over existing flooring?
A: Yes — over hard, flat existing surfaces (concrete, timber, existing hard flooring). The subfloor must be level within ±3mm over 2m. Do not install over carpet or compressible surfaces.
