17mm Interlocking Rubber Gym Mats — Heavy Duty Non-Slip Flooring for Workouts
Our 17mm interlocking rubber gym mats offer an ideal mid-range specification for UK home gyms and fitness studios — thicker than entry-level 10–15mm tiles for better shock absorption, yet lighter and lower-profile than 20mm tiles. Made from high-density rubber with a self-locking puzzle edge, these heavy-duty mats can be installed without adhesive for a professional gym floor in hours.
Key Specifications
Thickness: 17mm. Tile size: 1000mm x 1000mm (1 m² coverage per tile). Weight: approximately 17kg per tile. Material: high-density recycled rubber. Surface: textured non-slip finish (R10 rated). Compression resistance: 350kg/m². Edge type: 4-sided interlocking puzzle edge. Colour: standard black (speckle variants available). Suitable for: home gyms, personal training studios, CrossFit warm-up areas, cardio zones, and martial arts light training areas.
Why Choose 17mm Over 15mm or 20mm?
The 17mm tile sits between our lighter 15mm and standard 20mm options, offering slightly more cushioning than 15mm tiles without the additional weight of 20mm tiles. This makes them particularly popular for multi-purpose studio spaces that need better floor protection than entry-level tiles but where the floor has a low height restriction (e.g., raised thresholds or specific door clearance requirements). For most home gym applications, the difference between 17mm and 20mm is minimal — our expert team can advise which is best for your specific setup.
Are 17mm Interlocking Gym Tiles Suitable for Heavy Equipment?
Yes — our 17mm tiles are rated for static loads up to 350kg per square metre, which covers the majority of standard home gym equipment including squat racks, treadmills, cross trainers, and cable machines. For very heavy commercial equipment or regular heavy barbell drops above 80kg, we recommend upgrading to 20mm or 30mm tiles for additional protection and a longer product lifespan.
Interlocking Gym Tile Installation — No Adhesive Needed
These 17mm tiles feature a precision-engineered 4-sided interlocking edge that locks tiles together securely without adhesive, screws, or specialist tools. Simply align the puzzle edges and press firmly together, row by row, until your floor is complete. Edge cuts can be made with a sharp utility knife — the 17mm thickness can be scored and snapped cleanly without a saw. Installation of a 20 square metre floor typically takes 2–3 hours for one person.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Rubber gym mats are one of the easiest gym floor types to maintain. For routine cleaning, sweep to remove loose debris and mop with a damp cloth and pH-neutral cleaning solution. The tiles can be individually lifted and cleaned if required. Rubber is naturally resistant to sweat, moisture, and most gym cleaning products. Avoid solvent-based cleaners. The textured surface can be scrubbed with a stiff brush for deep cleaning of high-traffic areas.
